Erin Mills occupies 8,000 acres of former farmland in Mississauga. It is a combined residential, industrial and commercial neighbourhood.

The name ‘Erin Mills’ was chosen by land developers because of its close proximity to Erindale.  Erindale is a historical village whose earlier residents had renamed it in honour of their former homeland, Ireland. The second part of the name”Mills”refers  to the many mills that were operating nearby.on the banks of the nearby Credit River.

Although it is not the most populated  it is one of the fastest growing areas. It is the largest area in Mississauga, and occupies much of the western part.

The 1st phase, was later known as Erin Mills and was built beginning in the early 1970’s continuing through the decade.

Erin Mills West, the 2nd phase was completed in the mid 1980’s.

Phase 3 is fully finished. It has everything from condominiums to detached homes. The older village of Streetsville sits next to Erin Mills along the Credit River.

This neighbourhood  has some of the best schools in Mississauga.   It is just one of the reasons why it is a popular neighbourhood for young families.  It is also popular because it is close to shopping centres and major highways making it easy to get to work.  There is a large medical building where you can find doctors who are in general practice as well as many specialists. The Credit Valley Hospital is located in Erin Mills.
